Rules to Sumo

· Both Athletes start down in the “bull rush” position, with fists touching the ground.

· At the signal, both athletes engage each other in an effort to get the person “down or out”, meaning down to the ground, or out of the 15’ diameter circle.  Even if a hand or knee touches, the match is over.

· No punching, kicking, eye gouging, hair pulling, or grabbing the front (crotch) or back (rear) of the mawashi.  Open-palm slapping IS permitted.

· Typically, matches last 4-7 seconds.
